My Dad's an insurance agent and I talked at length about this with him a 
couple years ago.  It varies considerably by the carrier.  Some carriers 
had little difference in rates among cars in that class, while some 
others I noticed completely blacklisted aluminum cars.  At the time, the 
financial practices of insurance carriers was perhaps somewhat different 
than it is now, so this information may be dated.  I just found it 
interesting that a 400bhp Corvette could be insured while a 270bhp, 15 
year old NSX would be refused.  I know which car I'd be more likely to 
crash.

By the way, I think the newer XJs (2003ish and up) are substantially 
aluminum now.  As more and more cars go that route, I suspect this 
policy will be backed off a little in the future.
