[s-cars] V8 vs A8 now 3.0 V6

 We just got a 2002 A6 Avant for the wife/kid mobile in July. I'd say the 
jury is still out for me on the reliability. 
 
 Leaks oil like a sieve. Fixed some of the leaks in the front during the 
timing belt service (which was surprisingly easy with the blau tool kit). Had 
to replace the waterpump again in Nov because my replacement was junk. 
Haven't gotten a chance to look at the leaks towards the rear of the engine 
(please don't be the crank seal!)  
 
Has a check engine light on for cam timing issues which may be related to 
oil leaks from the hydralic adjusters. Also throws a cel every now and then 
for random mis-fires. 
 
Wife said the defrost turned ice cold suddenly the other day and fogged up 
all the windows. Dome light comes on unexpectedly some times while driving. 
 
Nice car. Typical used Audi issues. Like I said. Jury is still out because 
I haven't gotten around to fiddling with it much. Could all be easy fixes 
but I don't know yet. 
 
Not much DIY support for the 3.0 either. At least not at this point. Still 
a fairly new motor and completely different from the 2.8 and 2.7tt. HTHs.

As an aside from this thread, does anyone know the reliability or any 
issues with the 3.0 V6?  I'm looking at a 2003 A6 Avant with one.  I 
like the pep, but don't want a leaking nightmare. Any other a6 Avant 
advice? Thanks!
