Bill - Just to clarify I was talking about 2 different possibilities...

1. "Recoding" meaning just changing a coded value within your existing
firmware - aka plug in a VAG-COM and change a value so it thinks it's a Euro
car or whatever.  May or may not be possible or useful but this is what a
number of older Tip owners are able to do, to wit the D2 folks:

So if that worked for you it'd be no parts no software just a VAG-COM
procedure to make aggressive shifting 'stick'. Aside from any NorAm vs. Euro
coding, given that it's the same core ZF 6HP26A tranny as in the D3 S8 I
would guess the possibly exists that you could re-code the TCU to that and
see how it works. Having a really bad coding might not be great for the car
but given that the S8 is "only" 14hp more I wouldn't think it'd be a big
deal.  Ideally find somebody whose got all the various Bentleys  and/or is
just a VAG-COM tiptronic wizard and knows what the coding is and what is
possible.

2. Tip chip or re-flashing - truly replacing/upgrading your firmware either
from a custom tuner or getting some different base firmware for the car from
another model/region. The old way to do this was to socket the chips and
that's what I had in C5. Now they are of course flashing engine ECU's by
wire but I have no idea if anybody's written code to flash the
multitronic/tiptronic trannies... I did a quick search and don't see muhc -
doesn't seem like there's a big market for performance tuning the Tips so
much...
