That's pretty much how they fail.  Mine did that, too.  It left a giant puddle of oil under the car in the garage at work.  I checked and it was a quart down.

Fortunately, the dealer had it in stock, and it was surprisingly inexpensive and easy to replace.

FYI Scar homies,
My oil light began to flicker on a slow drive around town.  Got her home (10
blocks) and discovered oil literally draining from under the car.
Turns out the oil pressure sender is PUKING oil big time.  Steady stream i'd
guess at 1 qt/2-3 mins AT IDLE.  Oil temp never rose but she lost allot of
blood.
Glad it did not happen on the freeway.  Napa has the part so im back and
running.  Musta just been the beoches way of saying its time for an oil
change!
