There are many threads on stumbles etc. and so on. And, many causes and
solutions. But this short, seemingly electrical cut out seems to be
something other than the things like boost leak, bad coil etc.
I can add another data point in that about a year ago I had very similar
symptoms where there would be ever so slight hiccups like the electric was
just turned off for a second and then turned back on. It turned out to be
that in my obviously half assed install of the apikol coils, I had simply
not tightened down the ground wire. D'oh! I blame working in the "Alfresco
Performance Centre" (APF)tm.
That said, my sisters '92 urS has this baffling ever so brief cut out also
which I thought would be cured by new coils. They seemed to reduce the
occurrence but not entirely. It is so complete and brief that it makes me
think it's electrically related.
So, . IF it is a grounding issue . I wonder if anyone has tried extending
the ignition ground wire off of the usual rear of the intake manifold
position and secured it to the chassis somewhere?
Is the motor grounded to the chassis and if so where?
Other suggestions?
I might also offer that some years ago on my 911, it would run fine for
about 15 minutes and then just plain die and coast to a stop. Two
alternator installs later I found it to be caused by the gunked up trans. to
body grounding strap. Heat builds up resistance and then voila, no more
circuit. Maybe there is something to this physics stuff.
I beg for one of our real engineers to step up and solve this J
Thanks in advance.
