Abe,
When our daughter Aria was born in April 2006 I like you wanted to put her seat
in the middle of our car for maximum protection, and our 93 S4's mannually tightening
lap belt held her seat fine.
Flash forward to ~January 2007 and I learned our new to us 2002 Allroad's middle seat belt
could not be tightened to hold her car seat correctly. It was loose and the seat was tilted.
I found at Baby's R Us the Mighty Tite and installed it, and it worked great!
Flash not so far forward ~5 weeks later, we were involved in a head on collison in the 2002
Allroad, the impact of which totaled both cars, and pushed the Allroad's engine/transmission
back several inches, bending the main driveshaft and broke the rear differential bracket.
The only person that did not sustain any injury was Aria, and the mighty tite was still in tact.
And yes per the standard safety procedures we did replace the Britax car seat
The mighty tite is essentially a ratchet strap with your seatbelt playing the part of the strap, if you
do not pay attention to what you are doing you can overtension the seatbelt and do damage.
Likewise if you do not pay attention when installing the car seat or fastening your child into it
you can cause problems. It saddens me to see how many people do not take the time to
properly adjust the car seat straps.
We still have the mighty tite and still use it, and I firmly believe that used correctly it is a good
product that can help you safely hold your carseat in place. If the seatbelt in your car is like
our Allroad's and won't hold the seat correctly, you can either move the seat to an outward
position or do like we did and get a mighty tite.
