Electronic aids aside, the dumbing down took a great leap forward with the installation of cupholders and overboosted stereos (who needs to hear what's going on outside the car anyway?)
I witnessed the negative impact of electronic driver aids first hand at the NAAC winter driving school this past weekend - a driver in a C6 vette shod with snows couldn't make it up an icy hill on our avoidance course - stability control was applying the front brakes!!!! while the driver was trying to get the car uphill...my 17 year old nephew took my B3 90Q20v up the same hill in a nice controlled drift in comparison.
