You mentioned Rotella 15/40 "dino" oil...
I can say that when I had the chance to observe the testing of motor oils for a large fleet, Rotella dino was determined the best performer in terms of overall wear. So if you don't want to spend the money on synthetic oil, that would be my first choice.
The test was on large commercial diesels (Detroit, Cummins, and Volvo) where they were run at max rpm at rated horsepower for 750 hours.

I've switched to Rotella-T, full synth, quite happy with it.

would appreciate rec's on what weight full synthetic to use since I'm not
finding anything. Is Rotella 15W40 a wise choice (dino) or should I move over to
Mobil 1 15W-50? (sucks that it's not sold in 5q jugs but oh well).
