[s-cars] Locked out of Project S6

Andy;

This is not uncommon if the PO always used the remote to open the doors and
never used the key in the door locks. The tumbler pins get stuck in the
cylinder slots and the springs aren't strong enough to force them to conform
to the key pattern. In some cases the tumbler cylinder corrodes to the
housing and won't turn even if the pins release the cylinder. Soak the locks
with your favorite penetrating oil and run the key in and out to work the
pins up and down. Turn the lock back and forth to see if you can get it to
release. WD40 isn't a penetrating oil - it won't do the job. The permanent
fix (once the doors are open) is to pull and disassemble the locks, clean up
the pins and cylinders, and relube the locks.
You have to remove the window carrier to get the locks out of the front
doors.
I always use the key at least twice a month or so to keep the locks free. If
the car sits longer than a week the central locking system shuts down to
save power and the remote won't work, so the only way in at that point is
using the key in a lock.

Good luck!

I have the remote-key, changed the batteries (which may/may not be correct)
it worked a few times, now nothing. What is the specific battery
recommendation for the remote? Meanwhile the actual key does not work in
either door ... or the trunk. In the driver's door it will not even turn,
passenger side it will rotate to a point of resistance (more to the left
than to the right). I don't want to use too much force. Tried squirting WD

into the locks to no avail. Maybe a red herring but the car sat outside for

several months before becoming my new project. I don't know if this car
has had door lock issues in the past, it's been kind of iffy for me but up
til now I've always been able to unlock it. I suppose I can have AAA open
it with a slim jim, then what? I thought 'team doorhandle' only affected
the trigger style doors.
