Andy,

how many keys do you have, based on all of the locks causing you a problem
I would try another key.

You may have a damaged key.

Yeah, I managed to get 300K miles out of my '91 200q20V, but lately the 
miles per $$ ratio is not working out all that well.  I drove it to Carlisle 
in May for the car show and it wouldn't start the next morning.  It would 
crank but not turn over, srtong smell of gas.  Check plugs and they were 
wet.  Replaced with new iridiums, same result.  Towed the car 190 miles 
home, haven't gotten it started yet.  Pulled codes, checked a few of the 
usual suspects, now thinking Hall unit in the distributor (this is a 3B with 
metal gear dist.).  So my punishment for keeping this car on the road is 
going to be 'project S6'.

This car was owned by another good customer at my Mechanic's shop.  He has 
always taken good care of this S6 (known service history).  Last Fall he 
decided to replace it with an S60R and although he knew he was pushing the 
timiing belt interval, he drove the S6 and sure enough there was valve 
damage.  With 280K and in need of "head", this car was offered to me (the 
*only* likely prospect) at a price I couldn't refuse.  The engine work is 
done, it seems to run pretty well.

So with the PVGP coming up and Audi as the featured marque I find myself 
with two Audis, neither currently drivable.  The S6 had recently had it's 
springs and shocks replaced but sits way too high, probably the wrong 
springs?  I have a set of H&R/Bilsteins coming from Force 5, picked up some 
17" Hockenheims last weekend.  I have actually been asked to display my Audi 
at a few of the supporting events leading up to the big weeked July 24/25.

Thanks you guys for the helpful responses.  The combined experiences of 
everybody on these lists are what allows the rest of us to learn and 
(almost) afford to keep our cars on the road.

I must say that I don't really like the idea of opening up the lock 
cylinders but I hate the idea of being locked out of my own car.  I have 
replaced my window regulator (in the 200), so I guess that's half of the 
learning curve.

I sprayed the locks liberally with penetrating oil and walked away.  Will 
repeat later.
