[s-cars] G12 coolant

I read through the threads re. Dexcool and it appears that it is not exactly
true that it is the same, although some parts guy in NJ assured someone it
was. Interesting thread on a Mercedes list, too. Apparently G12 is
actually Valvoline Zerex G30. I think it boils down to you are probably
fine to use a number of different ones, but not to mix them unless they are
the same formula. On the other hand, the newer purple G12 is supposed to be
perfectly compatible with the pink. SO, I'll probably just add filtered
water (should be okay, even if it's not distilled, Wylie) to just above MIN
and have them pick up some high priced G12 at the VW dealer in T-town.
By the way, while looking around, the cheapest price I found was at
carpartsdiscount.com. Meyle G12 for $11.05 for 1.5L. Pentosin G12 is
$16.25.
It appears that VW and many Japanese/Asian vehicles use an Organic Acid
Technology (OAT) which is not compatible with the old blue-green Inorganic
Acid Tech (IAT), or the Hybrid OAT (HOAT) used by Ford, Merecedes and
Chrysler. Dex-Cool is a TM of GM, and in the currently used Zerex G-05
formulation, is HOAT. Zerex Extreme Life is the OAT product that is said to
be approved by VW on the Zerex info page, although the VW spec is not
listed.
Problem is, can't find it anywhere...

They tell me that Dexcool coolant is identical to G12. You will
(make that "should") be able to find it a FLAPS.
