[s-cars] B5 S4 Engine Speed Sensor - need help

Wise men, can anyone tell me an alternate location for the engine speed  
sensor on a B5? The Bentley shows it on the left side of the trans, just  
forward of the axle. It's not there on my car. I looked around the  
periphery of the trans but have yet to locate it.

It's bad and I need to replace it. Once I find it that is...
