[s-cars] My S4 "Blue Toy" has been stolen

The weird part is I spent the last 5 years in RDP, the 2nd worst part of
Montreal when it comes to gang-related crime: not a single problem. I just
moved to a much nicer part of Montreal: car is gone.
I have very little hope to get the car back as a whole. A joy-ride is
unlikely because the car was loaded with furniture and boxes, not something
you'd pick for a joy-ride. And windows were engraved by the PO, which makes
it a definitive candidate for chop shops.
The worst part is: no insurance. A few years back, I realized that it was
way cheaper to insure yourself when you can afford to replace your car
anytime. So I switched all my cars to basic insurance. And even now, I don't
regret it. In the past 5 years, full insurance on the 3 cars would have cost
almost the same as replacing the S4... and at least, I don't have to fight
for 6 month to have a decent value for it.
Vincent.

Completely sucks, and the rare choices would be some of my personal
favorites.
As we all know, industry/regulatory systems and anti-theft technology is at
the point where it's almost impossible to re-sell a stolen car whole unless
you just happen to have the papers and VIN from a semi-matching 'legal'
example, so anything stolen is either A. a short-term joyride, or B.
destined for the chop shop.
Neither being a great prospect for a positive recovery experience unless the
joyride is 'gentle' or the cops bust a chop shop before they've gotten
around to your car. Oddly I hardly worry about it in the US anymore but I
understand car theft is still something to be concerned about parking on the
street in CA. Can we assume this some symptom of the reported high
gang-related org-crime activity in Montreal/QC?
