Hello everyone, Robin, et al, I would just like to publicly respond to this.

First off, Robin, I'm very sorry that you are so disappointed with the
resolution to this outcome, I can certainly relate and understand why
you're not happy. Just so everyone is on the same page, here is my
exact email to you copy and pasted:

******
Robin, thank you for your email, I do empathize with your situation,
however the fact that these turbos were sold in April of 2007 (over 3
years ago!) means that there is absolutely no warranty whatsoever, not
to you and not to us from Borg Warner who supplied these turbos. Its
unfortunate that you took so long to install these parts, but there is
no manufacturer or company that would warranty a turbo purchased over 3
years ago - it just doesn't exist. I wish there were policies like this
that you desire but there are not in reality.

At this point the best route would be to rebuild the turbo that is
having an issue or replace the center cartridge which runs about $750.

Again, 3+ years is a long time Robin and there is simply no warranty for
turbos that lasts this long.

Sincerely,

Javad Shadzi

What you purchased were factory new Borg Warner turbos, not custom etc.
Turbos from Borg Warner are basically sold w/o any warranty, over the
years we have extended 90 day warranties to customers, however these are
OEM turbos, in 99% of the cases of a problem with the turbo, its the
result of an installation error, and Borg Warner knows it too. We have
shipped several pairs of turbos back to them over the years and all have
been deemed to have either an installation error, or in many cases, have
been run at over 1BAR (atmospheric) boost and are thus instantly void of
any warranty whatsoever by BW. We do our best to provide this OEM
product at a modest price, but we did not manufacture these turbos and
can only offer so much warranty for this manufactured product.
Fortunately, we have had little to no problems with manufacturing
defects on these turbos, 100's of other suppliers sell them to the
public as well, and even Audi uses them for their own cars, these K04
turbos literally being factory Audi turbos.

To my point on modest pricing, I went back and looked at your invoice
dated 4/26/2007, you paid $2150 for the pair of turbos, our cost at the
time for these turbos was $1950 - so we made $200 or a very modest 10%
profit. For a 10% profit, there is absolutely no way that any company
could offer a full replacement warranty for a product like this for 3+
years later, you just won't find it in any industry, anywhere. The K04
turbos over the years have been "whored out" for lack of a better term,
companies like us are basically charging a handling fee to sell these
turbos, BW makes the real money on these turbos unfortunately.

While I do agree that it makes sense you are mad and frustrated, to say
that "this has taught you a life lesson" does seem a little over
dramatic, maybe you can agree? I am mad and frustrated too that you
have had this experience, however my frustration is directed towards
Borg Warner with the possibility that this could have been a defective
turbo right out of the box (which is extremely unlikely statistically).

What I have offered you is a solution, I would not attempt to rebuild a
BW K03/04 series turbo when factory cartridges are available so
inexpensively, I have offered you a cartridge at our cost of $750, I did
a quick search and the cheapest one I found on Ebay was $895, see:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RS4-k04-25-k04-26-CHRA-Center-Assembly-Original-KKK-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2ead39ace4QQitemZ200474733796QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

What we are left with here is a situation where you purchased a set of
turbos at an exceptionally good price, waited far beyond any warranty
period to install them, have had a problem with one of the turbos, and
we have offered you a modest resolution at no profit to us, and you have
become enraged and attacked us publicly.

The offer still stands, if we can help you in resolving this in any way
that is reasonable, I will do it to restore your faith in this company.
If you have any constructive ideas, please email or call me and I'd be
happy to discuss it.

That offer is extended to anyone else who feels they've ever had a
problem with us, problems happen, we are here to work with and resolve
these scenarios with customers. We had the pleasure of serving over
7000 very happy customers last year, that result is what pushes us to
continue to do more and do it better.

Sincerely,

Javad Shadzi
