Jeff,

the clutch pedal dropping to the floor can be caused by two things that I know
of.

1. The threaded rod to the master cylinder can snap
2. the clutch pedal can snap where it presses on the master cylinder's threaded
rod, the pedal
itself remains hanging from it's pivot point.

Based on the fact that he recently had the clutch replaced I'll bet that the
clutch pedal was fatigued
and cracked before the clutch was replaced, and simply cracked.

I've experienced both situations, and you can still drive the car by starting
the car with the trans in 1st gear
and then carefully rev matching, I drove a fairly long distance rev matching
when this happend to me.

Now if he is in stop n go traffic ... wouldn't advise as it can be unsafe if he
isn't experienced at rev matching.

Also if he attempts to rev match remind him it is NOT about brute force, it's
all about finesse.

Fix is a replacement pedal ~$85 , it is a DIY in your driveway project although
there is a spring that can cause
a headache to get in place ... use bailing wire or cable ties....  recent thread
on quattroworld discussed this

HTH
Chris

Subject: [s-cars] Clutch pedal snap sound and now on floor Doug G needs
suggestion

Hey there.  1995.5 S6

Just took a call from Doug Gray, who’s clutch pedal dropped to the floor,  just
after hearing a distinct

‘snap’ sound.  Doug recently had the clutch replaced thinks the slave
cylinder was repleaced also.  He’s off the road on the shoulder, rearranging
his schedule.

He can cycle the pedal up and down by hand.. but there is now clutch
activation.

Is there some piece of chinsy plastic connecting the clutch pedal to the
master clutch cylinder in the footwell?

Just trying to help a fellow S car guy on the side of road here in New
England.  thanks for any suggestions.
Jeff
