You can find out specifically what is wrong by using OBD in the climate control unit. However when I had this problem I tried many things but what ended up working for me was a serpentine belt replacement. My theory is that the old belt was slipping under load of the compressor. It is easy to check and should probably be replaced on most cars anyway, as it is one of those things that gets overlooked.
