[s-cars] Lots of water in footwell & how to remove the carpet

Well,

I found the leak(s). I am absolutely dumbfounded as to how to fix them.

One is on the firewall in the very upper left corner of driver's footwell. I
can see the leak from the inside but can't see it from the outside. I think
the drain for the relay box area is leaking into the frame and this is one
place where that water is coming inside.

The other leak is on the left side of the driver footwell directly above
where the hood release cable handle attaches. This also appears to be water
that is coming in from the drain in the relay box area.

I have to say it is the drain leaking down into the frame because the leaks
are at joints that are not in the relay box area - they are in joints that
appear to be in the frame.

I started taking the front-left fender off the car thinking that I could
gain access to these areas and patch the holes but it doesn't appear that
this is the case. All holes are in areas internal to the frame.

At this point, the only other thing to remove would be the dash but I'm not
even sure that is going to help.

I could probably apply silicone to the area above the hood release but I'm
not sure how good a fix that is or how long it will last.

I have no idea how I would apply silicone to the other leak. I can barely
get a rag on a dowel back there to dry/clean the area.

I would also like to hear from someone who has BTDT on the carpet removal. I
think the carpet needs to come out of the car. Now I am trying to figure out
if I should cut it (and where) or if I should remove more of the center
console and pull it out in one piece.

Thanks!

-Jeremy
