Back when I was a young 'un, I rode on the parcel shelf because there wasn't
no room in the back seat of the Cutlass Supreme with all my bros and sistas.
At least mom and dad gave me a pillow for impact protection.
FWIW, we roll with Recaros for our 4 year old. We originally bought the
Young Sport
http://www.amazon.com/Recaro-Young-Sport-Child-Seat/dp/B000AHO6VM and then
found a used Start on Craigslist fer cheap
http://www.amazon.com/Recaro-Start-Car-Seat-Charcoal/dp/B000ENPHKG. BTW, I
love the review about the fact that the Start isn't "lightweight and
trendy."
Both are well built and very stout. I have no experience with the other
Recaros in the lineup but I would guess they're well built, too.
