As long as we seem to be going this route the solution may well be 
spray the parts with hair spray and slip them together.  Then let the 
hair spray "cure" for a while.  It will lubricate for the assembly 
process and then act as an adhesive after it dries.

A more viable solution would be to find a small brass hose barb 
connector at a large aquarium shop.  Either a straight through 
connector or a Tee connector will work but you may need to just close 
off one leg of the Tee.
