[s-cars] TIRES

I second the recommendation on these. I have had them for about 3k miles
now on my B5 S4 and they are awesome. 120 mph in the wet track event (and
the dry), my friend bought some for his B5 and actually ran them through the
winter in Castle Rock, CO. They actually do amazingly well in the snow - as
good as my Kumho "all season" ASX's ever did. As stated, they are a little
vague in the first few hundred miles but stiffen up after that. Nice and
quiet, cheap and grip like crazy. Way better grip than my previous BFG
KDW2's, and soooo much quieter - no more headaches :) Comparing these to
Conti Xtreme Contacts is not even in the same ballpark. The Conti Xtreme
Contacts don't handle much better than my V-rated Dunlop Wintersports,
whereas the Hankook's are very well matched to my H&R coilovers and
Stoptechs at full tilt into a corner.

Hankook Ventus V12 evo. Inexpensive, did well in a recent C&D tire
shootout. Not all-seasons, but great for a car that never sees anything
more than some rain. I just bought some for my wife's 330i, and they are
noticeably better than the Pirello PZero Neros that they replaced. The car
had some vagueness when pushed hard in corners, even when the tires were
new. That's gone now.

Actually, the OP asked about tires for SoCal, hardly a place for
all-seasons.
