[s-cars] Final Thoughts on Control Arm Install

Well, after installing a LF control arm on my 95.5 Avant last week, wanted
to share some BTDT's.

1. Have a plan in mind for how to get the locating sleeve out of the inner
mounting of the control arm where it attaches to the subframe. I did not
think this was going to be an issue as it was super easy to remove on my old
93 S4. Oh did I learn. I could not remove it by trying to "pick" it out.
So then resorted to using an "extractor", that just drove it further in.
This is not recommended as the sleeve needs to come down, it is blocked by
the subframe on top and I assume most folks do NOT want to drop the
subframe. I ended up having to hacksaw out the old one and purchase a new
one from the stealer for an obnoxious amount of money.

2. You may want to line up a helper to get the swaybar back into position.
On two ur-S's I've tried to do it alone with strap clamps, a large prybar,
large channel locks, extra floor jack, etc. Nothing helped except 10
minutes of neighbors time. Just my $0.02, YMMV.

3. Whilst struggling with disassembly, I accidentally popped outer CV joint
off of half shaft, just a heads up that you can pop it over the circlip.

Hope this helps.

Abe
