Jim,

Oh, so you haven't done this before? Lucky you then.

Maybe someone has a link to the door panel removal handy? If not just
google 95 a6 or s6 door panel removal.

I don't recall if there is a hidden screw behind the inside door handle but
there may be one? Other than that it's pretty straight forward.

Unscrew door pin and all screws and unhook the latch inside from the handle
and pull the panel up to remove it. Search though cuz I am sure there are
pics somewhere.

For lubricant, my all around preference is Kroil Penephite
http://www.kanolabs.com/

Google around for best price. This is the only stuff I know that will work
on door hinges.

Also good for the key locks and of course lock mechanisms. Uber micro
graphite and other elixirs do the trick.

Removing the window regulator is not so daunting as it looks either.

Pay attention to a shim in the front and mark its position for reassembly.

It's possible the lubricant in the winder has simply dried out making slow,
difficult operation. For this would try spraying some WD40 inside and
rolling the window up and down a million times while grabbing the glass and
helping it along.

Take the panel off and diagnose the issue so you can have the replacement
parts on hand before taking the whole regulator out though.

Once you've finished all this you can move on to change your fuel pump, fuel
lines and heater coreJ

Good luck!

Thanks Bill,

Anything I should keep an eye out for regarding taking the panel off.....any
clips or little plastic bits that I need to be aware of so I don't break
them when pulling and tugging to get it off after I "think" I've got all the
screws out?

What is the proper lube for this? Lithium grease?

Thanks again,

Jim

Jim,

Oh yeah, now is a good time to investigate unless you don't open it during
winter?

It could just need cleaning an lubing. Taking off the panel for a looksee
is not a big deal.

I had one cable wear out / fray and ultimately jamb, but the motor was fine.

This just one of them perpetual restoration items.

Lube the door lock mechanism whilst in there.

Have fun. Report back.

Bill~up n down, as needed~M
