 You guys are too funny.  The S car needs a diet, not 'mods'.  The weight part is easy, and ANYONE can do it.  Big Brakes are not only common, but a no brainer, put cheap *ss A8 brakes on it until you want to spend the money for BR.  The rest is creatively addressing issues, like directing airflow to the brakes, unshrouding the IC, DS fender liner venting,  maybe a larger oil cooler for longevity, removing A/C equipment (read shorter serp belt). 28mm front sb from a A6 wagon, a 26mm bar (Apikol) for the rear.  Coil over conversion in the rear, something stiff in front.  

A miata can be a fun car too I suppose.  But if I had a already amortized Scar to play with, making it a fast and fun track car certainly takes almost no fabrication skills at all.  The rest is all creativity playing with projects, not requiring massive fab skills.  A lot can be done with rivets and sheet metal from Home Depot, btdt.

You can even put some Mazda parts on your quattro track car if you wish, like I did here:

Those that discount the whole idea of a Quattro track car, just haven't experienced the fun of driving one.  I say just about any quattro can be damn quick for very little money.

I don't know, Peter.  After tracking both the Miata and the S-car, I'd

say it's a hell of a lot more fun to track the Miata than it is to be

different - lol



That said, with right attitude any car can be tons of fun on the

track.  One of the most fun track days I've ever had involved a

significant amount of seat time in a rented Chevy Impala.



As for modding a car for the track, unless you are a first class

fabricator like Haydn and you have the patience of a saint, I'd skip.

It took me 2 or 3 seasons to get the supercharged Miata sorted

out...only to abandon it for another Miata that is basically stock

with a cage.  Robert Caro can attest to this.  His car is a beast, but

it is seriously modded.  Anyone else running a cooler and pump system

for their rear diff?
