Oooof, that musta been annoying, buying a 944 turbo only to have to ditch the motor vs getting a base 944 to work up from without the turbo premium... Which is why the best track cars are often built on base models since you're redoing everything anyway.
BMW guys are speculating if the E36's will ever get there in value for track cars, but they are darn cheap now. They seem to have more issues than 30's although I'm no expert.
