Sounds like there is a great negotiator in our midst. Optimism that
creates an even disposition and a never give up attitude will serve
you well in negotiating with an insurance company. Remember that in
the corporate world, no man is autonomous; all answer to someone, and
in insurance and finance that is probably once a week. Unsettled
claims are a thorn in the side of the adjuster, especially trying to
clear things out on Friday so that claim is not still on the list
Monday. :> ) So keep sending emails and letters with new data you
dig up or a new way of describing something. I know a couple of large
corporations where the Chairman sees every letter addressed to him and
approves the answer.
If you keep real issues open and in dispute you may get help from
places you did not expect. Ask for more money when you come across
something you neglected to include in your original appraisal, or less
if there was an error, just so there is correspondence on your claim
that may get reviewed by a V.P. with the clout to direct settlement.
Don't neglect any opportunity to mention just whose negligence caused
the collision (not accident). Call the adjuster every time you have a
new little piece of information, etc. Call a lot when you know he
isn't in his office as well as when he is. You got it-act like you
work for a collection agency-after all, they do owe you money.
