Manny:

I didn't pull the sensor,
I believe that the sleeve acts as a spring to retain the sensor it the position in the housing.

Bentley only says to press the sensor into the housing until it's seated.
Evidently there is enough tolerance that it can be seated too deeply.

My recommendation is push it in until it contacts the CV, then back it off no more than 1 mm.
If you get an ABS fault, then you know that you will have to tap it in a bit further.

I've had to replace a few of these sensor as the old ones were destroyed on removal when they wouldn't come out of the housings for an off chassis wheel bearing replacement.
Also replaced the destroyed sensor sleeve with another used one.

In all cases I've replaced with used parts, and have yet to have an issue with an an ABS issue due to sensor spacing.

YMMV.
