I had to replace both the lock cylinder/tumbler and the switch when it failed in my wife's departed 1991 200q20v Avant.
Evidently my petite dainty-handed wife had managed to twist the tongue on the lock cylinder....

ps> Bentley Volume 3 section 94.10 goes through the ignition lock removal process, including how to remove the lock cylinder.
