Ron,
why not just clean/lube the ebrake cam?

or you could rebuild the caliper

Ron,
Where did you end up getting your rear calipers. My driver rear ebrake cam
is starting to get sticky so its time to change out before winter hits. I
am finding same crazy pricing as you did.
Let me know,
Abe

Scott,
Thanks for the valuable info on the '94 deal, and the casting stamp. I'll
be sure to look for it.
As for the Gold comment, I meant that for that price they must be gold
plated or something. No mention of "gold" in color in anyones on-line
catalogs. I know these are probably "new" in box calipers as that price was
from World Impex. Point is, I'm not going to spring for those as that
is damn near what the car is worth at this point.
Can you clarify for me what you mean by "unloaded"? I don't need carriers,
but I'm looking for plug and play replacements. I already have rotors and
pads.
FWIW, I have yet to see anyone stocking Beck Arnley.....can you recommend a
source?
Thanks,
Ron

The pricing depends on what you get in the box. Cheap reman unloaded
calipers can be found under 100$. Reman loaded calipers with carriers can
get darn close to new in box prices. "Gold" means nothing, I've seen
repainted reman calipers doused in gold paint. If you get the loaded
calipers with carriers, you must return the calipers *and* carriers to get
the core back. I've had the best luck with Beck Arnley brand remans, as
they actually tend to reman vs refurbish.
FYI, the aftermarket rebuilts have mis-listings for the v8 and the 92 S4.
The best bet is to get 94 S4, as the aftermarket appears to have got that
right. The first thing to do when getting a box of 'urS" rear calipers, is
pull them out and look for the casting stamp of "41/43" on the top of the
caliper. That mean you have the best chance of what's in the box, being
what you want.

Hey all,
Has anyone sourced new/reman rear calipers for a '93 S4 recently? Pricing
is all over the board from the usual suspects. Anywhere from $87 to, wait
for it.....$693.50! ea. with wide ranging core charges. I'm betting these
are all reman. Girlings, except for the latter which must be made of gold,
so why the big swings in pricing?
I know I can rebuild what I have, but the labor and time involved just don't
fit into the schedule. And two of the gold ones are about what the car is
worth, so that won't be happening. Just looking for operable park brake
(yes, I'm doing the cables) and fully functioning rear braking. I don't
have either right now..........nor for two years for that matter.
Any thoughts?
Ron
