[s-cars] Guide Pin Lube and park cables

Ron;

The best lube I've found for the guide pins is Permatex Disc Brake Caliper
Lube. I've also found sealing the boot to the pin with RTV Silicone greatly
extends the time between pin seizures. The boot fit to the carrier is tight
enough that it doesn't have to be sealed, but the fit on the pin is a bit
loose and it lets water in over time unless it is sealed. I also wire brush
the pins and paint the heads and outer 1/2" or so of the shaft with POR-15.
I haven't had a pin seize up since.

I can usually get the front cables on by dropping the exhaust at the front
and moving the pipes to one side. The trick of course is not getting the
cables on, it's getting the retaining clips on. A set of those extra-long
needle-nose pliers comes in handy for this job.

Good luck!

Subject: [s-cars] Guide Pin Lube and park cables

What should I use to lube the guide pins on stock brakes? High temp bearing
grease? Lithium grease? Lard???

I just spent about an hour freeing two guide pins from my left rear
carrier. One was actually slightly bent, how's that happen? New/used
carrier in my parts bin, so I'm not sure why I bothered.

And does anyone have any "tricks" for connecting new park brake cables to
the front hook? Got the passenger one, but the drivers is killing me. Just
no room to work unless you drop the exhuast AND the driveshaft. Don't
really want to do either, but short of getting one of the neighbor kids with
tiny little hands to do it, I'm stumped. So far, this has been way more of
a PITA than the heater blower motor, and that sucked.

Any help/advice appreciated.
