Second Martin's statement about chipped Ko3's not lasting too long.

The whole motor has to come out to replace them. Once you've upgraded to Ko4's
or Rs6 turbos w/ proper tuning and supporting hardware like bi
pipes, clutch, injectors, basically Stg 3 trim....they're pretty robust and all
out monsters.

Non-chipped B5's seem to go a while, but again..maintenance history on these are
mission critical as is a PPI.

We have four in the family right now, a 2001 sedan and wagon and 2001.5sedan
and a 2002 sedan, with 55k/110k, 99k and 125k respectively (the 02 is sedan
and 01 avant are for sale BTW). They are pretty good cars, overall. There
are some typical problems, leaky afterrun pump, CVs fail, valve cover
gaskets leak, turbo oil lines leak, weak sauce control arms.

With that said, chipped S4 K03 seldom last very long, so look to replace
those if they haven't already been.

I would strongly suggest you look at the maintenance history, as with any
other car and look for a lot of preventative work rather than just the
mileage.
