[s-cars] mileage with MTM1+

Michael, you are right, I should pit in a boost gauge. I put a cheap one into my 200tqa years ago. Works well but no look. What is good gauge and housing I can get for UrS4? Double housing, for future add-ons, is preferable I guess.
Thanks.

K-

One thing at a time. I've had the tune in the past and although it does get less mpg's than some of the other less aggressive tunes I don't recall it being that bad.

I would install a boost gauge first because it doesn't sound like you have one.

The MTM1+ should hold 19-20lbs at WOT on 3rd-4th gear. If you've got issues such as boost leaks you're not going to see those #'s.

Easiest way is to tee off the ecu , or if you have an S6 , there's a vacuum hose to tee off of inside the wiper motor assy shroud in the engine bay. Its closer to the drivers side.

My guess is that your MAF wire has residue. I've used electrical/electronic cleaner for years w/ no problems. Just douse it well, but gently. Don't put the hardline hose to close to the wire.

Chris, spark plugs are right (from SJM), connectors and filters are new. I doubt exhaust is the problem.
No codes from ECU. Engine works steady at idles and pulls well at boost (the latter is where I can be wrong).

I don't know which injectors I have and if they need cleaning, and how to clean them. I also don't know fuel pressure - need to install inline gauge asap.
Need to check if O2 sensor' heater works (not sure how it would manifest if it is not). I don't remember when I checked temp sensors last time.
MAF was cleaned a year ago and it did not changed anything. Need to check for vacuum leaks. No obvious leaks.

Konstantine,

Because you haven't mentioned any check engine lights I recommend starting with basic maintenance first to give you a known good baseline.
But if the light is on check the codes.

1. What is the age and type of spark plugs? If unknown replace
2. Check sparkplug connectors, I think they are $8-10 each if unknown age or in doubt replace
3. Air filter - change
4. Oil/filter change
5. You can clean the maf sensor - maf cleaner is available
6. The O2 sensor would be suspect but it's only one year one so I wouldn't replace it just yet; what O2 sensor did you use?
7. Exhaust - In a previous post you mentioned that your exhaust is in bad shape, is it possible your catalyctic converter(s) is partially plugged
or has broken down and has partially plugged your exhaust?

Based on responses (thank you!) I think I have a problem somewhere.
18-20 mi/gal on average on RS2 convert is much better then me having
max. 18.5 with only MTM 1+ chip at mixed driving (I even would not
call it "city" around Princeton, NJ). Cruising on highway at ~78 mph
does not make it better than 21-22 mi/gal.
What should I check? Ok, I will go over O2 testing again (1 year old
one). What else? Can MAF be failing gradually?
Thanks.
