Just get a Battery Tender then. They work just fine. Just get a really good
surge protector for it. I learned the hard way that they don't take things
like a nearby lightning hit (like a tree 50 ft from my garage) that well,
and they don't appear to be too repairable afterwards (too much went black
in the case).
