[s-cars] Brake fluid on drivers feet (or, how I drive with two left feet)

I knew that booster existed, but in driving up 29 through central VA and reading email I interpreted someone to say there was a (little(?) brake) cylinder somewhere in the footwell attached directly to the pedal, or somewhere close, not actually high up on the firewall. My gut feeling was that the only real likely possible source of brake fluid on the carpet was the clutch master cylinder or the line to it, since it IS right down there by the pedals and is actually inside the cabin, not in the engine bay.

The brake booster is actually between the brake master cylinder and the fire wall. It is bolted to an opening where the rod from the brake pedal passes through the fire wall, so it in theory could leak CHF on to the carpet. This would not be a very big problem as CHF is no more harmful than simple oil, though is does have a noticeable smell to it. Also the central hydraulic fluid reservoir has a fair capacity to it so topping it up before driving a reasonable distance is a viable option as long as it's a fairly small leak. Even if the CHF does run dry you don't completely lose the brakes as you would if this were a brake fluid problem, it just requires a big effort on the pedal to get the car stopped.

What with this little exchange, talk of painting a bit of cardboard/particle board to make a headliner, truck bed liner as an exterior paint job, and a few others I'm really getting worried about the future of some of our beloved EXPENSIVE GERMAN LUXURY PERFORMANCE cars. There's a difference between being resourceful to fix a car on a tight budget and just ruining the car.
