A couple months ago I got the new Meguiar's DA unit, along with some M105
and M205 polishing compounds and assorted foam pads.
My "test mule" was a '98 Caravan, which didn't look too bad for a 12 year
old minivan that I don't remember ever waxing :). I wanted to see how
careful I needed to be on my other cars, so I went straight at it with
M105. This compound starts with a fairly aggressive action before breaking
down, and I wasn't being careful. The action was very controllable and I
got a great result very easily, without doing damage. It looked
unbelievable with just a little effort. I hit it again with the finer 205
and it looked even better. I applied TechWax by hand and the whole job
might have taken 2 or 2 1/2 hours and it looks almost like new. That van
had long, light scratches running the whole length of the vehicle and
they're much less noticeable. I could have buffed them out entirely, but I
didn't see the need and decided to spare the clearcoat.
My 2 Audis were a piece of cake - I started with the finer 205 polish and
went straight to the TechWax. Both cars look better than ever.
I'm sure the Porter Cable does a great job too, but the Meguiar's system is
going to be hard to beat. I think I got a pretty decent package deal at
Autogeek (www.autogeekonline.net).
