Don't get that acetone on the paint - it will remove it.

I've never dealt with this, but I'm thinking either the springs getting
weak, or more than likely, rust is causing binding. I'd start by spraying
them liberally with your favorite lubricant (I use the acetone/ATF lube) and
work them up and down a bunch, see if that fixes it.
