 David
Thank you for your interest in the 'Best of' review and balloting process. Please read the following response in consideration of our decision regard the 'Best off' award. We on the review committee have carefully reviewed our points totals for the first 2 place finishers in this category. As the Best of Chairman was eyewitness to both incidents, we have included his response to your direct inquiry, with the reasoning and criteria for the decision applied to Steamboat Event Report 2011. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to call our 1-900 complaint line, and press 2 to exit the bunny ranch extension, then press ** to reach the Strawberry Hot Springs HQ of the "Best of" Committee.

Per Justi:
I assure you I was less than 200 feet and full witness to the antics of LT1Q pilot "the hammer" himself during his attempted in flight roll during his runway landing. As it was Dawson's rookie year, he needs to know that the 'best of' committee has been witness to the crazy Aussie's antics for 10 years now, and even almost on it's side, he failed to impress the judges again this year (what *will* it take?!). That said, had Dawson been witness to Hackl "the butcher" taking the final swing of the surgical ax at the 1-2 combo, I'm sure the antics of the "hammer" would have seemed t/l-ame in comparison. Criteria satisfied: The speed was higher, the reverse off in a calm over-the-shoulder look by the driver, and the absolute 'damage free' tow, put the point total just a fraction above the LT1 stuff. The "one more time" comment just prior to the act of neuron surgery by the butcher, witnessed by this co-driver, sealed that fractional lead beyond the objective-apparent narrow point spread.

Alas, I'm sure, had Dawson rode with 'the hammer' during his bludgeoning of the snowbank on turn 1, he might have saved a hefty dentist bill in the process. However, in 2004 the Safety and 'Best of' Committees, jointly amended the 'best off' criteria to specifically exclude 'jarring teeth' in spirit and/or intent, mostly for insurance reasons.

Hope you are hooked Mr. Dawson! See you next year!

Justi

 As always, entertaining report, Scott.

I would, however, have to respectfully disagree with the "Best Off" award. I think it should have gone to the LTQ 5000. Peter stuffed that thing so hard that I was looking at the entire underbody of the car... I was nearly certain the car was going to roll completely. It was so far up on its side it ripped 3 of the wheel bolts out of the left rear.

Anyway... hope I can attend more than a half day next year. The few sessions I got in were a hoot.

Dave
