Cal,
Some 8 or so years ago, I bought the seal kit available from Audi for this
pump, if I remember, it was something like $40. Removal, breakdown of the
pump and replacement of all seals is not too bad but tedious and messy.
But, the pump only lasted about another year, and started leaking again from
the X-plug and another seal I don't remember which. I bit the bullet and
got a new pump from Rod at the Parts Connection which is now defunct.
(Anybody know what happenend to him?) That pump has been in the S4 since,
and no sign of leakage or excessive noise. In fact, the pump has outlasted
three hydro line rebuilds.
For the amount of work to remove and rebuild the pump, my time would
have been better spent buying new from the get go. Depends on how much time
you have I guess?
My input.
