Are you needing to replace the drivers seat, or both front seats, or
front and back? It is a daunting task regardless of the number of
replacements needed. If you find a used seat or seats that meet your
standards for condition, my advice is buy them now; work out details
of how to get them as things unfold. There has to be a real shortage
of UrS6 seats in good to excellent condition, and the odds against any
popping up for sale has to be huge.
If you are to consider reupholstering one or more seats, this car
needs to be a keeper, because you won't 10% returned to you in a
sale. Plan on $600/seat to recover if all the bolsters are intact and
the foam is not broken internally, and the seat heaters work. That is
after you find a competent shop that will do the work to your
standards in a reasonable amount of time. Finding a guy who is not a
crook is a major undertaking here.
I recently recovered some seats for my sedan in ecru, so I can put you
on a good leather match. GL337 Nuance Shale, 2004 Corvette only from
Miami Corporation (miamicorp.com).
The upholsterer said he was not interested in doing another seat, but
might sew the cover if I installed it. Otherwise, there is too much
easier work that pays just as well. In general, most places give
outlandish estimates because they don't want the job.
