[s-cars] Plowing along...

Hi Jack,

I did somewhat the same move, although coming from an S6 sedan, and with an
S4tt short lived (stolen) in between.

You're right about the stock allroad. It's a soccer mom SUV, just lower with
6MT.

Now, making it a decent car is not that expensive. If you don't need
adjustable suspension, switching to coilover with the Arnott kit
(http://www.arnottindustries.com) and Hotchkis sport sway bar is no more
expensive than a Bilstein/coilver/swaybar upgrade on the S6. UPgrading to a
sport adjustable air suspension, also from Arnott, is another story but you
get a car with a versatility you could only dream of with an S6a.

Regarding the brakes, as you said, with good pads, you don't really feel the
need of a BBK. Anyway, with over 4000lbs, there's no point using this car on
the track so the BBK would be seriously overkill.

And the engine, once chipped, goes close to a normal tune RS2. Going to full
RS4 level, once more, another story, but you end up quite higher than a full
RS2.

So, considering it's the last large Avant with 6MT from Audi, and it can get
quite decent with 2 grands of upgrades, I'm not as negative on this car.
Upgrading it to RS specs while keeping the adjustable suspension is much
more expensive, but you get much more of a car at the end. And upgrading it
to S specs is very reasonable, and you get a car far from disappointing. The
only thing I really dislike is the weight. Not much to do about it but I
think that's the price to pay to be able to go on some of the north Quebec
"roads" I'd never dare to touch with an S6.

OTOH, the youngest S6a being 14 years old now, you can probably find a full
RS2 S6a for half the price of a stock allroad 6MT in decent shape.

Vincent

P.S.: "Normal" driving position is level 1 for everyone but soccer moms who
leaves it on automatic. This will cut some of the body roll, and a bit of
gas too.

And I thought there would be some Hap plowing with the S6, not trains. but
pretty cool anyway!

Somewhere on the Allroad site (I think) at Quattroworld I saw some plowing
of trucks and SUVs carving up city streets in Colorado! Not very pretty,
tons of crashes back down a moderate hill, once they lost uphill traction.
Carnage galore!

So what in the world is a self respecting S car owner doing on the Allroad
site? If you remember I lost my S6A in a total wreck in Sept, and replaced
it with an 2002 6MT Allroad. Don't ever do this unless you buy a heavily
modified one, you won't be happy! Allroad is a terrible letdown, they don't
even closely approach a bone stock S6A. The body roll is twice what a stock
S6 is in a normal driving position of level 2 on the Allroad. The stock 6spd
clutch is sooo light sometimes I'm not sure it's engaged, unless I notice
the car is moving. The 2.7TT (stock in my car) is probably never gonna
outrun a stock properly running I5. The further I get into what it's gonna
cost to ramp this up to my S6A with RS2ed power, it's more than I paid for
the car! Although the brakes, stock also, are what should have been on the S
cars that came to the US!

Well at least my wife likes the Allroad! I'm gonna give it to her when she
isn't so upside down on her Tahoe and can sell it! I'm looking for a
respectable S6A come summer time. Send me a note if ya have something that
isn't crazy money and want to sell it come spring/summer!

Jack
