Do you think the reset got stuck and finally worked its way loose and that's when it started working?  I usually reset mine once gingerly (with the car stopped of course) and then do it again once it's zero'd out.  I'd try that and see if it helps.

Filled up with gas this past Thursday evening (prior to $0.025 gas tax hike.
Rest odo.
First ~75 - 80 miles (based on gas used), odo did not move (trip or main).  Now 
working.  and acuratly.
 
is there a DIY for serviceing the odo?
