No distributor on the AAN except very early '92s .......ECU-controlled coil-on-cylinder ignition from that point forward.

In what year did they stop?  I have one on the 94S4, and I believe the S6s 
had them as well.

Point is well taken but moot.  I think the problem is more in the starter 
area than the distributor.  The spraying water and the problem may be more 
of a coincidence.  Driving the car for a half hour or so should have 
eliminated any water issues.
