Hello fellow S-nutz,
A couple years ago I wrecked my Silver 93 UrS4 (not my fault) insurance totaled
it and wrote me a check. I
Ended up not rebuilding it because there was just too much damage to the car.
I then bought my Silver 95 S6 from Azeem an ex Audiworld forum member from
Chicago. When I bought it it did not run, as some of you may recall his engine
had a rod knock and someone helped him replace the bearing, but they didn't find
any pieces of the old bearing. After completing the work they couldn't get the
engine to turn over, he gave up and it sat until I bought it.
After hauling the S6 to Kalamazoo it was discovered the starter motor was jammed
which is why the engine wouldn't turn over. After unjamming the starter it fired
right up and seemingly ran well with no unusual noises. However knowing it had
eaten a bearing we swapped in the drivetrain from my wrecked UrS4 which
consisted of a 6 speed EDU trans and a fairly stock engine with RS2 FI, RS2 EM,
RS2 MAF and Garrett 3071 turbo running on "RS2 tune".
At the time of the swap the engine had just a tad over 270,000 miles on it, I
have since put 55,000+ miles on it; yup this engine has over 325,000 miles on
it, which is why I haven't cranked up da boost!
Finally tore down the old engine from the S6 and found two spun bearings and
another bearing split into 3 pieces, finally verdict the head was good with one
VERY small crack (well within spec) the block was good but the crank was junk so
I have purchased a good crank.
Goal is to get as much horsepower without losing dependability. I want the
engine to last, not neccesarialy 325,000 miles but still. With this in mind I am
also addressing some other issues at the same time, with the goal of eliminating
small things that can strand me. CPS, fuel pump, etc. I would welcome
suggestions on things to address while the car is down.
I also am hoping to get my FMIC components installed prior to the engine swap
I am pulling my good not leaking but obviously used steering rack from my 93
UrS4 parts car and having it rebuilt, figure it'll be alot easier to replace
with no engine in the way! Thinking about sending out my spare power steering
pump to be rebuilt and would recommend a good place to do it. They both seem to
make some noise and I want to eliminate the noise.
When the old engine is pulled I am going to have my RS2 EM cleaned up and send
the Garret 3071 turbo off to EFIExpress to have a billett wheel upgrade.
All parts have been ordered from the infamous Marc Swanson, who will also be
tuning the new VEMS system.
Yes 034 lost an order for well over $5,000 because they treated me poorly one
too many times.
