It would be in your tool box. It is not a fixture on the car, but
rather an adapter to allow
a tank fitting to connect to the low side.
Those adapters can work satisfactorily for adding a few ounces to top
off the system Peter,
but I strongly endorse a check for the leak that certainly exists,
then evacuating and refilling
the system by weight at the high side port. If it charge (and
pressure) is almost all gone,
there is certainly moisture in the system that needs evacuating.
Moisture and refrigerant oil
forms the nastiest sludge imaginable. I recommend checking the
expansion tube and cleaning
or replacing it and replacing the filter/dryer also. You can rent the
equipment from most FLAPS
for no cost, except for the tank to recharge the system. You can't
get sufficient charge in the high
side from 12 oz cans since the static pressure of a full charge is ~
100 psi.
If you must do it, after evacuating the system you can add what
refrigerant the system will take
through the gage manifold set at the high side port (engine off, of
course), then top off at the low
side with the compressor running, using the gages to determine the
correct charge, and just
guess at the needed oil addition. A thermometer for the interior
outlets is handy also.
