Nope it's still avail - $60-70 IIRC. New ones are somewhat nicer than 
the OEM - don't look too different but internals are updated and 
different PCB, range is every so slightly better.

I toiled for cumulative days trying to find out what other VW/Audi 
remote could be compatible and available on a used/replacement basis 
cheap to no avail.  I'm still sure there's something, I think from 
European models, but trust me it's NOT any of the easy to find B/C 
platform remotes.  The S-6 radio remotes were/are supplied by 'Defa' and 
operate on 433.92Mhz - there are some other VW/Audi remotes that operate 
on that frequency but not many - most are 315Mhz or 434Mhz - and none 
were common USA models AFAICT.
