[s-cars] Half shaft removal

You should be able to remove the axle without undoing the ball joint pinch, and yes you will want to get the inner joint clear of the cup and elsewhere/up in the engine bay to get the needed clearance for the outer joint to clear the hub. It will be a bit of a fight with the outer joint at near full bend, but it will clear without messing with the ball joint. IMHO, separating the ball joint introduces more headaches (the need to get it back in solo) than it eliminates.
One trick when putting it back in, is to put a zip lock or similar sandwich baggie over the inner joint, as this will keep the grease in the joint and the dirt out while you're fishing it around your engine bay looking for that magic reinstallation angle. Once the inner joint is roughly lined up with the cup, you can remove the baggie and start putting all the hardware back in.
Good luck come Monday.

At full lock, with strut at full droop, I can't quite get the spline clear of the hub.
With the inner triple squares (8mm) removed, I assume I can move the inboard end up into the engine bay to get the outer end free of the hub?
