mowers seem to be a whole other beast in my limited experience.

but, i had a very similar symptom that i couldn't (nor could my mower
mechanic) immediately diagnose. my mechanic cleaned the carb and did
everything he could think of to improved fueling but the issue
remained.

upon further inspection, there is a pin that is designed to fail if
your blade hits a rock (or something stable enough to absorb all of
it's rotational momentum), well apparently i hit something that didn't
stop the blade completely and this pin just bent instead of failing
catastrophically. this apparently has a negative effect on the valve
timing. making it so the engine cannot run for more than a few
moments.

replacing this pin solved the problem immediately.

that's all i have to say about that.
