Hey Tony,
Long story but the only way I was able to swing it was dumb luck on what I thought was a too low ebay offer bid and then covering by making it my wife's new car.
Her D2 with tozotrans was a little long in the tooth so it was a good time to move her up and I needed a car with auto since I was a recovering rt. rotator tear.
The old D2 became my driver for awhile and it since it was and is way to awesome to just sell for $5 or 6k, we still have it for when the other Audis break and with my youngest daughter now on permit.
But, WRT the C6S6, yes, I sure could use some participation on the Qworld forum. There are oh so few v10's and even fewer knuckleheads on the forum.
IMVHO, after (and building and still driving the urS), the neu S6 is quite awesome right out of the box. Good sound, excellent go and even the brakes are plenty good. Handling is not e36M3, but it is one heck of a cruiser which kinda makes up for that.
If there is any downside, if it is downside, the ride is very firm. The seats are very firm. That said, the I like a firm ride. And my wife, while she complained about the firm seats quickly adapted and now loves the car.
My only mod has been an ipod interface.
Everything works pretty well. There is a lot of software that runs these newer cars and vagcom is your friend. I had forgotten about the tpms when going to winter tires and it took a lot of vagcom and experimenting to disable the tpms for the winter.
But it is a modern car. Lotta cool stuff. Opt for carbon fiber trim if given a choice. The recessed LEDs in the door trim at nite is a very cool touch. So is the push button start. You don't even have to put the key in.
The car will open too when you get near to it.
Mine has 85k on it now and is doing very well. The Conti 265 tires are way too crazy $$ ($350 ea?), so I keep getting 90% tread left tires off ebay keeping one or two on hand and rotating them once a year and throw the two worse ones out.
I have an oil leak in the front where the oil level sensor is but I have a new $65 one to install at the next oil change.
The coolant tank had developed some cracking and was leaking, so I changed that out along with 2 each air filters.
I have become good friends with GAP.
The power steering pump seized up in August and I was able to replace that at the TozoTrans emporium. It required dropping the subframe which is way less scary than it sounds and the Bentley claimed engine and trans had to be dropped. I think they were mistaken. But, anyway, the v10 has a drive chain (aka timing belt) at the back of the motor that drives a shaft along the drivers side of the engine which in turn drives the PS pump, AC and possibly the alternator. I forget exactly. So, the PS pump has a shaft with toothed gear that mates the pump with this turning shaft. The install calls for it to be highly grease with special of course Audi grease. My car had not been greased at the factory and 83,000 miles later it was toast. That's the worst so far. New pump was $380 + some payment for Tozo svc and I'm good to go. Lord can only guess what a stealer may steal for this, but it's not likely to happen to others I think.
The Blose stereo is awesome too. I learned that basically the whole door panel contains sound baffles. It sounds great to me, but I am not an affectionato.
The nav system is pretty good. Not as good as google IMO, but good graphics and fairly easy..
There are a lot of things to play with on the screen.
WRT gas mileage; I've never kept track. So since I just dont know, I'll say 49 miles per gallon.
Anywaze, it is a cool modern car and good to have. V10's won't be made for long and I believe they are already phased out... which is why I got it whilst I could.
YMMV HTH

Bill~whose newest Audi is still five years old~M
