HI Manny,
I'm just back from my local shop where the car is now up on the lift. My
mechanic showed me that the ball is rusty, probably wore the inside of the
joint and could have let go at any time - last night I was cruising at
120kmph on local highway.
Looking back at my records, I see they are from Adirondack Auto Brokers, aka
German Auto Parts. Brand is not stated. Cost $89.25 each - which funnily
enough, checking their website, is the current price! They were installed in
June 2004. I'll check for brand when I pick up the car tomorrow.
I guess the moral of the story is: don't let your control go for 7 years
without replacement - especially in Canadian salt environment!!

Tony,
Yes I think TRW has been the preferred manufacturer.
Do you know the manufacturer of the ones that failed on your car?
Glad you were going slow.

Subject says it all. Local online source has TRW control arms for $300 for
the pair.
Just in case you're wondering, today I suffered a control arm failure - ball
joint separated! Strut is resting on bolt that holds the other end of the
ball!!! Luckily I was only a couple hundred meters from home. And moving
slow!
