Aluminum is much harder to get heat treated properly and work hardens very quickly in this case. Far fewer people have the skills to do it right versus if we were talking about a steel alloy, and those that do have the skill charge accordingly making *good* aluminum repairs costly. There are plenty of people that know how to weld (and are likely good at it) but are ignorant of the consequences and don't even know that they don't know how to repair a cracked wheel right. By the time you had it repaired and heat treated you could have just bought another wheel in many cases.
