How do you get the "political reasons" from that article? The most
compelling reason in that article why there may not be a state funeral is
the wishes of Armstrong himself, and of his family.

Sure, he criticized the Obama administration over current space policy,
saying the president had been poorly advised, but I hardly think that would
make a difference. In any case, he was a great man who did great things,
and he'll always be remembered, state funeral or no.
